How a Bill becomes law
Follow the journey of a Bill from publication, through debate and committee, to the President's assent.
2. First Reading
At First Reading the Bill is formally introduced to the House: its title is read out and it is placed on the record. There is no debate on its content at this stage.
Once read a first time, the Bill is committed to the relevant committee of the House, which will examine it in detail before the House debates it.
