How a petition is handled
From drafting and lodging a petition to the committee's report and the response to the petitioner.
2. Lodging and presentation
A petition can be submitted to the Clerk of the House, who checks that it meets the requirements, or presented on the petitioner's behalf by a member. It is then reported to, or presented in, the House.
When a petition is presented, members may make brief comments on it, within the time set by the Standing Orders.
